Artist Statement
My main focus is to craft an artwork that combine various topic of knowledge, for better understanding on my own life and mind. I have been studied on fashion design on my bachelor's degree, which made me interest in fabric and textile, which evolve to the basis of material use to create my artworks. Along with inspiration on how life can be dark and imperfect sometime, I create unique aspect on life can go both way, either good or bad. Sometime mistake is not the bad as we think, it can spark and inspire new experiences. Sometime things cannot be undone, but we can make use of them, to draft something new.
Artist Bio
Rungploy Lorpaitoon (b.1990, Bangkok, Thailand)
is a textile artist based in Bangkok. I was born with only four fingers on my left hand, which sparked my interest in adapting to my environment and society, learning how to love, and healing myself from adversity. I am fascinated by various fabrics and fiber materials, with a particular passion for organza fabric. My practice focuses on installation art and fabric art in both two and three dimensions.
I pursued a bachelor's degree in fashion design, which made me interested in fabric and textiles. Subsequently, I pursued a Master's degree in Fine Art, which evolved to the basis of material used to create my artworks and embarked on my first foray into installation art. Drawing inspiration from life's dark and imperfect aspects, I create unique aspects on life that can go both ways, good and bad. Sometimes mistakes are not as bad as we think. Sometimes, things happen cannot be undone, but we can make use of them, to draft something new. This artwork presents the nature of life with the nature of the material and invites viewers to expand their perspectives on imagination through my installation art.
One of my most notable works is LIFEWAVES, an installation showcased in various venues, notably at the international art exhibition NordArt2019 in Büdelsdorf, Germany, where I received the Biafarin Award based on visitors’ votes. Additionally, LIFEWAVES has been showcased at the Chic Evolution in Art Gallery in Miami, USA, and the People Gallery at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.
